On completing his dream project ‘Silence’, Martin Scorsese would be helming his long anticipated ‘Irishman’. And, more importantly, would be bringing his associates Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, and Joe Pesci on the silver screen again after decades.

The Irishman is based on the Charles Brandt book I Heard You Paint Houses which is the deathbed story from mob hitman Frank “The Irishman” Sheeran about the disappearance and death of Jimmy Hoffa. Steve Zailian adapted the book for the screen.

The film is based on the true story of Frank Sheeran, a WWII veteran, who led lives of both a high ranking official for the labour Union, and also dabbled with organised crimes. He was rumoured as the much – sought after hitman associated with assassinations of President Kennedy and Jimmy Hoffa.

The production house, Paramount is yet to strike a deal for international sales rights as the budget proposed is $100 million. And, the contracting with the actors is in progress. If all gets materialised,we would see the filming of Irishman proceeding further.

Captain America: Civil War is a visual feast by Russo brothers and crew. Let’s explore, why its a must watch in IMAX.

Captain America: Civil War” will be the first film shot with IMAX’s new 2D digital cameras, Variety has learned.

Roughly 15 minutes of the film, including what co-director Joe Russo describes as one sequence “with some incredible scale to it,” will be shot with the cameras.

“We like being on the cutting edge of technology, and we like to enhance storytelling with technology in a way that pushes the narrative forward creatively,” said Russo. “When you’re working on a Marvel film, there’s a sense of showmanship that goes along with the movies, and no exhibitor exploits that better than Imax.”

Russo and his brother Anthony are well schooled in the Marvel universe, having previously directed “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.” They are teaming once again on the sequel and are set to helm two upcoming “Avengers” sequels.

The new cameras have emerged through a co-development partnership between the wide screen company and Arri, the German motion picture supply giant. Imax currently has a 3D digital camera and 2D film camera, but is manufacturing the new technology in recognition of the fact that more and more films are shot digitally.

Moreover, many 3D productions, such as “Gravity,” are shot in 2D and converted to 3D in post-production. That’s what the Russos plan to do in the case of “Captain America: Civil War.”

Imax has been very selective about allowing filmmakers to use its cameras, limiting their use to a few A-list names such as Zack Snyder (“Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice”), Brad Bird (“Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol”), Christopher Nolan (“Interstellar”) and J.J. Abrams (“Star Wars: The Force Awakens”).

‘The demand for our cameras has never been stronger,” said Greg Foster, CEO of Imax Entertainment. “But we’ve had a supply/demand issue. In a very calculated way we held back the supply, and that’s increased demand in a way that we haven’t been able to satisfy.’

Captain America: Civil War will be the first film to use the new high resolution IMAX ALEXA digital camera.  Exclusive to IMAX Theatres the 17min ‘airport battle scene’ of Captain America: Civil War will expand vertically from an aspect ratio of 2.39:1 to 1.9:1 (meaning the image height will increase from approx. 13m to 17m) and combine with the significant increase in resolution to further immerse audiences in the action.

Directors Joe & Anthony Russo – ‘That sequence we figured deserved that scope, that scale of frame… We also have a lot of characters who fly in that sequence — there’s a lot of vertical movement in that sequence — and so the added dimension of that IMAX frame really helps us sell the action on that axis

IMAX Featurette:
The most visceral, involved audience experience that a film can offer. The 17-minute action sequence shot on the ALEXA IMAX camera will vertically expand to show 26% more image, exclusively in IMAX. Hear Chris Evans, the Russo brothers, and more explain why IMAX is the only way to go

Matt Damon had reprised the character Jason Bourne after almost 10 years. He had been part of several other major films, such as Interstellar, The Martian. He was just 29 years old, when he took up ‘ The Bourne Identity’, he turned 45, on taking up Jason Bourne again for the fourth time.

Matt Damon as Jason Bourne in the knuckle fight scene.

‘For the first Bourne movie I was 29 and I thought that was hard work getting into shape. Now I’m 45 and it’s just brutal. We shot this bare-knuckle fighting scene on my 45th birthday and it was a lot of work to get there.I was on a very strict diet and spent a lot of time in the gym just making myself miserable. So maybe for the next one Jason Bourne will be fat and happy and old!’, said, Matt Damon.

The actor further revealed that they had been waiting for an idea as intriguing as the previous installments of the franchise (Bourne Supremacy and Bourne Ultimatum) for the last 10 years. Audiences had entrusted the director (Paul Greengrass) and the actor to make a promising comeback. The success of Jason Bourne, had led them to venture into various other successful films as well. Eventually, something substantial had come up, and thus the film was made.

‘It’s been one of those things that we wanted to do for a long time because we love the character. For both Paul and me it’s been a huge part of our careers and the success of those movies has allowed us to do a lot of other stuff.Just walking down the street people will come up to both of us independently and constantly ask if there is going to be another another one, and that’s really the reason we did it – that people wanted to see it.We both made movies that people didn’t want to go and see and it’s not something to be taken for granted. It’s a tough thing to earn an audience’s trust and so we didn’t just rush into it, we waited for 10 years or so and got a good story, and hopefully we’ve done something that people will want to see.’, said Matt Damon in a interview to BBC World.

Its interesting in knowing why and how the 45 years old actor Matt Damon, reprised the character Jason Bourne.

The other important cast includes,Tommy Lee Jones, Alicia Vikander and Vincent Cassel.

Jason Bourne is back on 29th of July 2016.

Jason’s Bourne is a fictional CIA field agent, who is framed into a special assignment as an assassin for eliminating targets who have conflicting interests. During a particular mission, he declines to assassinate a diplomat, consequently, he gets shot by the guards and disappears. He is then found and rescued somewhere in the European waters by fishermen. He does not remember his identity. He traces back his origins and founds that he is sort of persuaded to kill targets. And, then he starts following the leads and kills those responsible. Jason Bourne is a fictional character originally written by Robert Ludlum for his novel by the same name. Subsequently, his works were adapted into feature films. That’s the brief introduction about the character and events happening in the Bourne Trilogy, The Bourne Identity (2002), The Bourne Supremacy (2004), and The Bourne Ultimatum (2007).

Matt Damon played as Jason Bourne and he was phenomenal. The first part of the installment was directed by Doug Liman, and the last two series were by one of my most favorite directors Paul Greengrass.

jason-filmtheorist.com

I was captivated by Matt Damon as Jason Borune. His moves, body language, motorcycle and car driving expertise, being nimble, sensitive of the environment, ability to quickly understand the threats and find a way to evade them, meticulous in thinking and execution, physical stamina. All of it made me obsessed with the character. In effect, I became Jason Bourne in my real life either. I enacted the character, I moved, talked, behaved, drove, ran, thought, actioned like Jason Bourne. My colleagues started calling me as Jason Bourne. Yes, that’s another pseudo name of mine. In this process I sustained minor bruises and injuries.

Now, I’m delighted because Matt Damon had reprised the role of Jason Bourne and Paul Greengrass has come back to direct the 5th installment of the series, titled Bourne 5/Jason Bourne.

The three creative geniuses of our times Roald Dahl (novelist), Walt Disney (Innovator) and Steven Spielberg (Storyteller) have come together and made one of the most loved works of Dahl, The BFG as a feature film. Also joins the critically acclaimed screenwriter Melissa Mathison, whose earlier major screenplays include E.T( Extraterrestrial, 1982) and Kundan (1997) a biographical drama about Dalai Lama.

BFG-filmtheorist.com

As the name suggests the film is about the Big Friendly Giant (BFG) from the giant world, who brings a precocious, 10 year old girl Sophie (Ruby Barnhill) from London to his cave in the dream country of him. He collects dreams and shares them with children and tells them the wonders, mysteries, and dangers of their world and dreams. The BFG is Mark Rylance, who won academy for best supporting actor for his role in The Bridge of Spies.

Oscar (R) winner Mark Rylance stars as the BFG (Big Friendly Giant) in Disney's fantasy-adventure, THE BFG, directed by Steven Spielberg based on the best-selling book by Roald Dahl, which opens in theaters nationwide on July 1.

“I think it was kind of genius of Roald Dahl to be able to empower the children. It was very, very brave of him to introduce that combination of darkness and light which was so much Disney’s original signature in a lot of their earlier works like in ‘Dumbo,’ ‘Fantasia,’ ‘Snow White’ and ‘Cinderella,’ and being able to do scary, but also be redemptive at the same time and teach a lesson, an enduring lesson, to everyone, it was a wonderful thing for Dahl to have done, and it was one of the things that attracted me to want to direct this Dahl book,” says Spielberg.

In Disney's fantasy-adventure THE BFG, directed by Steven Spielberg and based on Roald Dahl's beloved classic, a precocious 10-year-old girl from London named Sophie (Ruby Barnhill) befriends the BFG (Oscar (R) winner Mark Rylance), a Big Friendly Giant from Giant Country. The film opens in theaters nationwide on July 1.

The BFG is an outcast, as unlike other giants, he does not eat humans, instead he survives on Snozzcumber and Frobscottle ( fictional food and drink respectively of the worlds of BFG). He is 24 foot tall, with enormous ears and lovingly stupid. Soon, Sophie and The BFG become friends on realising their warm and cordial intentions. Meanwhile, the giant world, realises the unwanted presence of the girl, and the other giants intend to kill both The BFG and girl. The rest of the plot revolves on how does the small little girl, Sophie, plans and protects the giant, The BFG for their friendship.

‘It’s a story about friendship, it’s a story about loyalty and protecting your friends and it’s a story that shows that even a little girl can help a big giant solve his biggest problems’, says Spielberg.

Only few fortunate ones exist in the world, who are beyond the relationships humans can ever understand. The BFG is one such relationship!

The theatrical release is scheduled on 1st of July 2016.

Lopper (2012) is a unique blend of gangster crime thriller combined with time travel. As the name of the film suggests, the plot goes in a web of complex twists and ends well. 30 years from the present (2044, yes the film happens in future), time travel is invented(2074). Soon after its invention, its forbidden for unknown reasons. The highly sophisticated crime syndicates manage to get hold of the technology. Also, in the future, its almost impossible to dispose off a body. The intelligent bosses exploit the time travel machine.

loop-filmtheorist.com

Target is identified, and sent through the time travel machine to the past to specific location on an agreed upon time. An assassin called Looper waits for their package to arrive (target/human), blindfolded in a particular colored jacket, and silver packed on their back as payment for the murder they are going to commit. The moment, the package arrives, no questions asked, Lopper shoots, takes the silver, disposes off the body, who technically does not exist in the present. The person belonging to the future is killed in the present, and their identity is perfectly wiped off without any trace.

loop-filmtheorist.com

Intriguingly, the future selves of the loopers are nabbed by the most notorious gangster boss, called The Rainmaker, and sent back to the present selves of the loopers themselves. The loopers don’t know that they are going to kill their own future self. Confusing, isn’t? This is precisely why they are called Loopers. Because, they kill themselves and close the loop, leaving no trace of their existence in the future.

loop-filmtheorist.com

People from the future say that The Rainmaker is the most brutal gangster and he does not even appear as human. He is considered as creature. The story gets intertwined when the looper, Joe ( Joseph Gordon – Levitt) meets Old Joe ( Bruce Willis). Joe does not know that he has to close his loop but realises that his time has come, immediately looking at the target that is sent back without blindfolding. Before, Joe makes his mind to kill Old Joe (his future self), he is attacked by Old Joe with the reward (gold bar, packed on his back) and escapes. Obviously, the rainmaker gets angry and wants to kill both Joe (present) and Old Joe(future).

loop-filmtheorist.com

Another parallel plot of the story, which is of paramount importance gets unveiled. Old Joe’s wife is killed by The Rainmaker in future. Therefore, Old Joe uses the opportunity of being present in the past to the young Rainmaker. He also has a lead to find him. The epic scene where Joe and Old Joe meet, the latter tells the former about his wife, Rainmaker, and his plans of killing young Rainmaker. In between Rainmaker’s gang assault Joe and Old Joe, and both manage to escape. Joe takes cover from deserted family of mother and son and latter realises that mother’s ( Sara – Emily Blunt) son is the Rainmaker through an incident when a cop comes to nab Joe, the young rainmaker screams extremely as an explosion and blasts the cop and damages the house into pieces, and kills the cop. In meantime, old Joe kills all the possible leads of young rainmaker, and eventually comes to the place, where young Rainmaker, his mother (Sara) and Joe reside.

loop-filmtheorist.com

What happens next is very instinctively made. Joe realises that he cannot let his future self to kill a boy, the potential threat for world in future (The Rainmaker), Sara (mother) would go to any extend to save her son, Old Joe would do whatever it takes to kill young rainmaker so that his wife’s life can be saved. What does Joe (present self) do?

He closes the loop. Intriguing. Do watch the film to know how.

The Crash (2004) is a highly recommended masterpiece, directed by the writer of Million Dollar Baby, Paul Haggis. Crash is a melodramatic and realistic film, about the differences between people, on the trivial issue of skin color, which is one of the main reasons causing conflicts among mankind. It deals with how cruelly people are obsessed with racism, and the impacts it make on their lives.

The most important emotional aspect of the film is, the people who are hated the most by other race, are the ones who actually rescue the haters from crisis and save their very lives. An accident collides all of their lives and make them realize their mistakes and redeem their sins. Its ensemble cast, mainly comprises of Don Cheadle, Sandra Bullock, and Thandie Newton. The film won three Oscars in 2005, for best picture, writing/original screenplay, and editing.
